Many of those 40 million either choose not to have health insurance, are eligible for Medicaid but don't apply, or are illegal aliens. If the government hadn't interfered, even they could afford insurance. If you can read, I say why don't YOU open a book and stop being a pawn of stupidity and ignorance. Moron.
itachi705 — there are about 45 million Medicare beneficiaries, 8 Million Medicaid beneficiaries. There are over 300 million Americans so 50% would be 150 million citizens you dolt. Your point is debunked.

Thanks for explaining our side. I'd like to add some info. As you know, as of December 9th, the Senate now includes a strict penalty like HR3692 does. The house bill would penalize people who refuse to buy insurance with $250k or up to 5-years in PRISON.

The current system is already half nationalized. Medicaid and Medicare make up 50% of the industry. They created the problems that spread. To say that this system is free in any way would be a lie. Your points have been debunked time and time again, yet you keep repeating them like robots.

look at the «disaster» our current for-profit «system» has... no other industrial peer allows for-profit insurance for basic care — you can buy supplemental care, and many do. In Germany the wealthy can opt out, but most enroll because the gov't non-profit plan is so good. We deserve the same.

Medical costs are high as hell in Canada. The sick come down here for treatment and cures they don't and CAN'T get it up in Canada.

Im a huge fan of yours. I am Canadian, and LOVE my health care up here. The health insurance market in the USA does ration health care right now. If people were to pay the amount equal to the deductible each year to a single payer health care plan, the gov't would have more than enough money to fund their plan. You're way off base as a member of an incredibly functioning, reasonable society. Are you in favour of medicare?
I do not know what I think about this bill yet. What I do know is that the country is going into debt, insurance is becoming worthless, people can't afford medical care, etc...I see these problems, but I fail to see any straightforward solution. This all basically comes down to the idea of whether or not health care is a priviledge or a right. If it's a priviledge, the poor are out of luck (sucks to be me). If it is a right, then so is food. Either way, we are all in quite a pickle.
